All I’m thinking about are steak, beer, my Korea/Japan trip that’s coming up soon, and whether I should watch Parasite or Ford v. Ferrari tonight.

It hasn’t really been a productive day (from a work perspective) , I’ve mostly been looking for places to eat at during my trip.

Luckily, my reddit browsing paid off and I read about a place in Tokyo that serves ramen with duck, both the meat and broth. I’ve had duck soba before which I loved so much so I have high hopes for duck ramen.

It’s quiet in the office so I’ve been able to perform quite a bit of research; i t’s been a productive day in that sense.

in a funny sort of way the timing kinda sucks tho... my old boss was getting the guided tour today..ill be missing the opportunity to boss her about when she gets started lol (i kid...she was a good boss lady... im guessing my previous workplace finally fucked her over too)

I missed the first round of Ford Vs Ferrari but lucked out with the re- issues. T here was only one other person in the the theater. It was fantastic.

I’d have put it differently, but I am in a roughly similar state of mind. I’m an 8th grade math teacher and while I want to kick them all in the butt today because lazy, we’re having Phineas and Ferb instead and all just sort of enjoying each other today.

My Korean isn’t the best but I understand a decent amount , and reading subs is easy-peasy for me.

I feel like Ford v. Ferrari will be enjoyable in the same way that Rush was - I know the story and how it ends, but it’ll still be cool to see it play out on screen.

I’m leaning towards the former at this point... I’ve heard so many good things about Parasite even before it won its awards.

There’s only a handful of places that do ramen in Ottawa, and the two I’ve been to really miss the mark in comparison to what I had in Japan. Plus, you’re probably paying around 2x the price considering one of the great bowls of ramen I had cost me around the 8 CAD, but in Ottawa I’d expect a bowl after tax/tip to break the 20 CAD mark. Not acceptable.

That’s why this duck ramen sounds so incredible.

As for the movie, you’re one of the few people that didn’t enjoy it; the comments I’ve seen and heard are generally positive.

Yeah, if she was a good boss then I’d imagine that you’d return the favour. It’s nice to have colleagues you actually like; I’m lucky in that I really love the people I work with on my team, even if I’m generally indifferent to the work (not this work in particular, but work in general ).

I’m definitely going to get around to watching it. I guess it won awards for sound production or something? Probably a good thing for a movie with classic race cars.

I leave for the trip in early April... it’s a little under 2 months from now. Going to Tokyo, then Jeju/Busan/Seoul, Okinawa, and then back to mainland Japan, over the course of 3 weeks.

It’s been about four years since I’ve been to Korea and around 2.5 years since Japan, but it’s Korean food that I miss the most. If I lived somewhere with a large Korean population it wouldn’t be as bad, but I don’t want to live in Toronto, NY, or LA, mainly because I’m not a crazy rich asian (only two of those three words apply to me).

I’ve thought about it. I figure I can use my Instant Pot to make a good broth without having to work on it for a long time. Might have to give it a go sometime.

Given that ramen is normally based on pork or soy based broths, I want to try with beef broth. I love pho, but I think a beefy broth using more Japanese flavours instead of Vietnamese, along with the right kind of noodles, would be incredible.

Had to pep talk a 50y/o coworker about how to behave in the workplace, how harassing other people because you dont like their performance isnt solving anything. Then got approved to leave early because they didnt need 3 people doing a 1 person job and saw the person who did said approval getting chewed out about letting employees leave.

There is also a bomb investigation within shouting distance of my house and had to pull some antics to get past the traffic blockage.

My TV sound system is a Polk audio soundbar/sub setup that’s functional, and that’s about the best I can say about it.

About 95% of the time I’m wearing my Sony 1000XM3s since they’re noise cancelling, comfortable, and sound great.

I forgot what I did in 8th grade math. Does basic algebra start then, like the “solve for ‘x’” kind of questions? Or are kids smarter these days and doing differentials and stuff? I honestly forget what I did in middle school.

If you need to improve someone’s performance, harassment probably won’t do it.

I do a lot of coaching for improvement at my job and everyone’s different - I’m more of a “cut the bullshit and get to the point” kind of guy whereas others need a lot more encouragement and constant positive comments to offset the few negatives I’m trying to address. This is why I get upset when people beat around the bush when giving me feedback - I’m an adult, I can take some critical feedback.

Also, letting people leave early doesn’t have to mean an impact to output or productivity, just like how keeping people in doesn’t mean you’re going to see a positive impact on output or productivity (e.g. me today).

Agreed. My broth-making is all chicken, since we really don’t eat beef in our house. it’s about 12 hrs per pot. I’m kind of a stickler about broth. But I also do as much miso as I can, because I can’t get enough of it.

Do the noodles separately from the broth, add some sprouts chili garlic, and bok choy, and you’ll have yourself a perfect meal.

Yea, something like that. I liked Rush more but it’s definitely good relative to other motorsport flicks.

Sounds like an awesome trip! Both Korea and Japan are on my shortlist. But I just got to LA so now I’m on the hunt for Korean food here .
